« Social and Cultural Transitions in the Circumpolar North - What is the Role of Climate Change? » par le Professeur Peter Schweitzer

Le prochain Vendredi de l'OVSQ aura lieu le 7 novembre 2014, nous accueillerons le Professeur Peter Schweitzer : Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Vienna, Austrian Polar Research Institute, pour une conférence intitulée « Social and Cultural Transitions in the Circumpolar North - What is the Role of Climate Change?

«The discourse about the Arctic and Subarctic is dominated by the topics of climate change and resource extraction. This presentation will focus on the social and cultural trajectories of indigenous communities in the North. A particular emphasis will be put on climate change, in order to assess what is and what isn’t attributable to a changing climate. Other factors, such as language retention, non-renewable resource extraction, globalisation, and transportation networks, will be addressed as well.»
