Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS)

The long-term monitoring of greenhouse gases (GHG) established in the national observation service, RAMCES (Réseau Atmosphérique de Mesure des Composés en Effet de Serre - Network for the Measurement of Atmospheric Greenhouse Gas Components) is approved by INSU (Institut national des sciences de l'Univers - National Institute for the Sciences of the Universe) and aims to identify and quantify greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere, from the continental scale to the regional scale. The national RAMCES observation service represents the largest greenhouse gas measurement network in Europe. The RAMCES network represents the French contribution to the European ICOS research infrastructure.
 

The Laboratory of Climate and Environmental Sciences (LSCE) is also in charge of the Atmospheric Thematic Centre which has the following functions:

 

• to collect and process measurements in real time,
• to define the measurement and calibration protocols,
• to ensure a technological surveillance of the sensors for the observation of greenhouse gases.
