SIIG

The responsibilities of SIIG are:

the calculation and publication as quickly as possible of preliminary values of magnetic activity indices recognised by the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA). The planetary indices am[1] (based on a planetary network of 20 stations) are put online on two days later and the index aa (based on two antipodal stations) are put online 30 minutes later;
the online availability and archiving of provisional and final values of indices recognized by the IAGA, in order to constitute a reference database;
advising other members of the IAGA on anything related to magnetic indices. This role is currently very important because of the profound changes brought about by the prevalence of digital magnetometers and by the evolution of methods of electronic data transfer.
