Responding to the environmental challenges of the present and the future

The educational programme of OVSQ aims to teach the future generations to think, decide and act in support of sustainable development and climate mitigation in the fields of the social sciences as well as environmental sciences.

We believe that the key to meeting the challenges presented lies in a collective and interdisciplinary approach. In 2017, [1] OVSQ is made up of 52 teacher-researchers from three laboratory centres of excellence, and annually welcomes around 400[2] students in 10 Masters courses.

The interwoven themes of Climate-Environment-Society are central to our educational programme and our teaching is characterised by an interdisciplinary approach:
  • the physical sciences (climatology, planetology, environmental sciences for the Arctic),
  • the social sciences (adaptation to change, sustainable management of territories, Social Responsibility in Companies and Organisations (CSR / RSO), sustainable supply chain, geopolitics of the Arctic).
  • It also ensures the establishment of solid bases in the disciplines of:
  • environmental sciences (physics, chemistry, earth and life sciences, mathematics),
  • systems sciences (economics, ecology, logistics)
  • human sciences (geography, regional planning, sociology)
  • This reflects the organisation and structure of the OVSQ where:
  • we bring together specialists from many different disciplines, to offer courses on a wide range of subjects
  • we strive to remain relevant and practical through on-going cooperation with industrial and regional partners.

OVSQ aims to provide the tools and skills to equip the current generation to act and make the appropriate decisions to protect our planet for future generations.

Our students create real value in the professional world by harnessing their individual skills, conviction and enthusiasm in the application of these tools.
